Lake Gregory

Today was a long driving day from Nuwara Eliya to the Yala National Park, but one with interesting sights along the way. One was Lake Gregory, a reservoir built by Governor William Gregory between 1872 and 1877. It is a recreation area for boating and other activities.

Water Buffalo

The animals that we saw the most of at Yala were water buffalos.

Wild Boar

These are wild boar in the photo on the pathway to my cabin. I waited until I saw a porter with my luggage and followed him. We were told to call for an escort at night to go to dinner and also to return to our cabins. One of my tour mates was walking with her husband after dinner. He stopped to talk to someone and she went ahead by herself and started being chased by a very large wild boar. She ran onto a close–by cabin’s porch and it left her alone. She thinks she must have gotten between a mommy boar and her children. Very scary! I didn’t ask what other animals could be roaming around at night though there were many monkeys seen during the daytime.
