Cahir Castle

Our first stop of the day was at Cahir Castle in County Tipperary, its construction starting in 1142 by Conor O’Brien, Prince of Thomond, and later granted to James Butler, Baron of Cahir. It is one of the largest and best preserved castles in Ireland.

The castle was well fortified by such items as iron spoked gates that would come down to trap or spear invaders.
