Christmas at the Mission Inn, Riverside, CA and Neighborhood Christmas Decorations, Chino, CA
Mission Inn Hotel & Spa

I went on a day trip to take a tour of the famous Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside, California, a California National Historic Landmark, about 45 minutes from Los Angeles going east. The trip was sponsored by the Glendale College extension program. The Mission Inn started out in 1876 (that is old by Californian standards) as a two–story adobe guesthouse. It grew into a huge hotel covering a full city block and developed by a man named Frank Miller. It was built mainly in the Mission Revival Style, with many features taken from the California missions which were built by the Spanish padres. Other styles were also adopted, such as the Spanish Renaissance Style. We have many Spanish style buildings in California.
For Christmas, the Mission Inn puts on a Festival of Lights (3.6 million lights) as well as many Christmas decorations.

Chino Neighborhood Christmas Decorations

After viewing the Festival of Lights, we went to eat at a Basque restaurant in Chino, about 45 minutes east of Riverside: vegetable soup, salad, bread, chicken, lamb, French fries, white beans, and ice cream. It was served family style on long tables. Some of it was tasty and some very plain. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and there really wasn’t anything to take photos of.
Next, to a neighborhood of the city of Chino that outdoes itself putting up Christmas decorations. A house decorated more modestly is out of place here. Photo: One of the displays. I have put my photos of the Chino Christmas display on a slide show on this website. Go to Slide Shows, United States, California, Chino: Christmas Decorations or go directly to
