2011 Cow Harbor Parade

I went back to my hometown of Northport, Long Island, New York, the weekend of September 16–18. It was Cow Harbor Days, with events including this parade. Cow Harbor was the original name of Northport. Northport remains a small town, a beautiful well–off town, and it was a true American small–town parade.

Peter Maravell in Concert: Opera

I took this movie plus the next four at a wonderful concert at the Harborfields Public Library in Greenlawn, Long Island, New York, on September 18, 2011.  Each movie is a combination of individual selections but not in the actual order given at the concert.

The artists: First, Peter Maravell, a great singer, an operatic bass baritone, and also a great showman and a true Northport/Greenlawn treasure. He has sung at the New York City Opera and you can find other selections featuring Peter on YouTube. He is also one of the proud owners of the house where I grew up in Northport/Greenlawn, NY.

Vladimar Polezhayev, Pianist

Vladimar Polezhayev is from St. Petersburg, Russia. He and his wife have performed in Europe, Canada, and the United States and are referred to as the “Long Island Piano Duo” and you can purchase CDs and DVDs of their performances.  Also, check YouTube.

Melissa Maravell in Concert

Melissa is Peter’s daughter and has sung for the New York City Opera for nearly three decades (a contralto). She has performed extensively in the New York Metropolitan area in music styles including opera, musical comedy, and folk. I have a CD of Stephen Foster songs by her.
