Noble Peace Center

Day 7: We took a short walking tour of Oslo this morning. Today, it rained on and off. We passed by the Noble Peace Center, a museum.

National Gallery

Our walking tour ended at the National Gallery. One of Edvard Munch’s four versions of the famous “The Scream” painting is in the National Gallery. Lyn and I went inside to see it. I scanned this photo of it from a postcard as no photos were allowed of the painting. I was surprised as to how muted the colors were in the paintings as I have seen photos of it where the colors are much more intense. This is the version that is most often in the photographs.

Oslo City Hall

Our next stop was at the Oslo City Hall, where the Noble Prizes are awarded. The Noble Prize ceremony is held elsewhere––in Stockholm, Sweden. The city hall contains many murals by famous Norwegian artists.

Akershus Fortress

Our last stop was at the Akershus Fortress, built in 1299 and rebuilt in 1640. It is still used as a military base.

I have put my photos of what we saw in Oslo today on a slideshow. Go to

We had to be back at our hotel by 2:30 p.m. as we were then going to leave Oslo, taking an  overnight car ferry to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Car Ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen

The car ferry to take us to Copenhagen from Oslo left at 3:45 p.m. It was about an 18–hour voyage to Copenhagen, arriving about 9:45 a.m. the next day.

I have put my photos of the car ferry ride on a slideshow. Go to
