Heading Home

Time to say good–bye to my wonderful hosts Brian and Dale and to the beautiful Central Coast. Photo: Driving past Morro Rock in Morro Bay on my way home.

Santa Barbara

I stopped off in Santa Barbara for lunch and to see the Ablitt Tower House. To find the house, turn left at this intersection of State Street and Haley Street (coming from the pier). The Ablitt Tower House is at 13 West Haley Street.

The Ablitt Tower House

The Ablitt Tower House. You have to walk down an alley to see it from its front. The house measures only 20 feet by 20 feet and is 53 feet high. It has four single–room floors and 72 tile–decorated stairs. Its architect was Jeff Shelton. I think it looks like a Gaudi building and belongs in Barcelona, Spain. If you have a chance, go it see it. My photos do not give it justice as they do not fully show all the outside curves. Tours are sometimes given of the inside of the house though I do not know how you sign up for them. You can see photos of the inside of the house by searching for The Ablitt House or The Ablitt Tower House on the Internet.

What you will probably not see in any photos of the Ablitt Tower House is of the other buildings in the alley in which the house is located. Here is one of them.

Driving past the beach in Santa Barbara. Traffic was light until I hit a traffic jam on the 101 in the West Valley––a not–welcome welcome back to LA. I should have taken a different route home. But what a really neat trip.
