Puszta Great Plains

Today, I went on the Puszta Great Plains and Kecskemet Day Tour from Budapest which included an Hungarian horse show. The Great Plains are south of Budapest and consist mostly of flat farmland and forests.

Hungarian Horse Show

We stopped at a horse ranch to see a Hungarian horse show, one of fast horses and loud whips (the animals were not being whipped). I took a movie of almost all of the show (a bit over 15 minutes). Go to Movies, Central/Eastern Europe Movies–2, “Hungarian Horse Show, Puszta Plains,” page 1, to see the movie.

Gypsy Musicians

These gypsy musicians entertained us at lunch. I took a movie of them playing “The Blue Danube.” Go to Movies, Central/Eastern Europe Movies–2, “Hungarian Gypsy Music,” page 1.

Lunch

Lunch was good: Hungarian goulash, cutlets, very sweet dessert, all the wine you could drink. This is the first time I have had Hungarian goulash. I found it very tasty.

Kecskemet

We stopped off in the small city of Kecskemet before heading back to Budapest. It had many very interesting old buildings including a church dating back to the 14th century. This photo shows the Art Deco City Hall, built at the end of the 19th century. I wish we had stayed much longer here as it looked like a very interesting city to explore.

Back to Budapest, again with the flat farmland as scenery.

I have put my photos of the Great Plains, horse show, and Kecskemet tour on a slide show. Go to

Novotel Centrum Palace Hotel

This day, the tour company dropped us off at our hotels rather than having us find other transportation back to our hotels. Photo of my hotel.

Montenegroi Gurman

I had dinner across the street from my hotel at the Montenegroi Gurman, a restaurant serving Serbian food. I asked the waiter to pick something out for me as I was not familiar with this type of food. He did a good job.

This restaurant had won the 2011 Restaurant Award in the Exotic Cheap Eats category from “Time Out Budapest.” It might be a good book to take with you to Budapest.

My Dinner

Barbequed chicken. The red was a sauce. It was very tasty.
